The Beauty Guru Tag!

Hi lovelies! In case you couldn't tell, I've been pretty obsessed with tags lately. I think they are just super fun and a great way for you guys to get to know me better, and for me to get to know my fellow bloggers better as well! This tag in particular is great because it includes a lot of questions that I get asked on a regular basis anyway, so now I'm just covering them for everyone to see on one handy post!

By the way, I got the tag from the wonderful Missglamorazzi! And with that being said, let's go ahead and get started!

1. How do you feel about getting bigger in the blogging world?
I don't really like to think of my blog as getting "bigger" or define it by any numbers. I like to think of each and every one of my readers as friends that come on here to chit-chat with me about girly things like beauty and fashion. So I feel great about it, because I am constantly meeting amazing new people and doing what I love!

2. Did you think you would get so many readers?
Not at all! I started this blog because I just had such a passion for all this stuff and I wanted somewhere to be able to share my thoughts. I love that there are so many other girls out there who like to read and chat about the same things I do!

3. Do you answer all of your comments?
I definitely try my best! My feeling is that if someone takes the time out of their day to read one of my posts and write a response to it, then I should be able to take the time to answer them back. I have to admit though, lately my responses have been a little delayed and I do apologize for that!

4. How do you handle any hate you get?
Honestly, I have not gotten any "hate" yet. That was something I was so nervous about when I first made this blog and really put myself out there, but it just hasn't been an issue. The response from everyone has been amazingly positive and I am so grateful for that!

5. How much time do you invest in your blog?
It honestly depends on what kind of post I'm writing. Something like this that's a bit more informal typically takes me about an hour or two between writing it up and creating an image to go along with it. But then posts that are more formal and detailed, like a monthly favorites or a how-to, typically take upwards of 6 or 7 hours to get done. But I absolutely love it, so it's fun work!

6. Do your parents know about your blog?
Yes they do! In fact, basically everyone I'm close to does at this point. It was kind of a weird process at first telling everyone about it. For like the first month or two, I didn't want to tell anyone at all because I felt really self-conscious about them seeing it. Then I told my Mom, and she reacted so positively that I just sort of started slowly telling other people as well. It's hard because I don't want to sound braggy, like "look at me, I'm a blogger", but I'm proud of my blog and I like to share it!

7. How do you become a more successful blogger?
I get asked this quite frequently, and I always tell people the same thing. Success is different for everyone, and my definition of being a successful blogger may be very different than yours. For someone, it might just be getting the courage to start a blog and overcome their insecurities. For someone else, it may be to get a certain number of views or followers. No matter how you define success, the only way you'll be able to achieve it is by working hard and doing what truly makes you happy. So keep writing posts about the things you love, spread the word as far as you can, and I promise that success will come!

8. What do you love about blogging?
I know this sounds super cliché, but seriously...everything! I love being able to talk about all my favorite things. I love meeting so many awesome new people that inspire me every single day. I love learning new things and being able to share them with all of you. I love getting new opportunities I'd never even dreamed of and using my blog to make a difference. I love reading comments telling me that I helped or inspired someone, even in the most insignificant way. I love it all.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading this tag as much as I enjoyed writing it! I tag:
Beautiful Chapters
Never Finished
Beauty & Things
Sweet Mélange
Madness & Musings
Justina's Gems
...and YOU! ♥

Get Cute Jewelry, Give Back to Those Less Fortunate! ♥

Hey girlies! Today I really wanted to talk to you about a recent opportunity I received to be a brand ambassador for the incredible Reecie B. Jewelry. At first glance, it simply looks like an online shop that sells cute, affordable jewelry, but they are so much more that that. For every purchase you make on their website, a portion goes to missions and other humanitarian projects. One of the biggest causes Reecie B. supports is a rescue home in Thailand that saves children from sex-trafficking and provides them with food and shelter. And as if that wasn't incredible enough, starting in August you'll have an option at checkout to choose a charity close to your heart that you'd like a portion of your purchase to go towards.

I talk about shopping a lot on this site, and I am just as guilty as anyone else of getting wrapped up in material things at times. However, no great bargain on shoes or coupon code for cosmetics will ever compare to the feeling you get from doing good for someone else. What I love about Reecie B. is that you can get these adorable pieces of jewelry for great prices, and know that at the same time you are also making a difference in someone's life. I hope that you'll all take a moment to go on Reecie B.'s website, browse their jewelry, and read more on what their cause is all about.

Here's a quick look at some of my favorite pieces from Reecie B.'s collection:

I am absolutely obsessed with pastel colors right now, so I have been loving this necklace! It's versatile enough that you can really dress it up or down as much as you'd like. I've worn mine with a white t-shirt and jeans for a day out shopping, but I also love it for nights out with an equally feminine lace top!

This necklace is just so perfect for summer! I love pairing it with some classic gold bangles for an instantly chic look!

Mint Necklace*- $12.99
I cannot even tell you guys how many compliments I have gotten wearing this necklace! It's great for anyone that isn't quite as into bold statement pieces, because it has that gorgeous pop of color while still being really delicate and subtle.

As much as I love gemstone rings, I actually find that I get a lot more use out of simple gold or silver because they are easier to match with other pieces. I've actually been loving the Chevron ring as a knuckle ring the past few days, and the Horse Shoe ring is just a really unique twist on the traditional gold band.

And here I am wearing some of my favorites from Reecie B!

I hope you guys enjoyed learning more about this awesome company and the work they do! I'm going to go ahead and share all the ways you can find Reecie B. below, be sure to stop by and let them know how much you appreciate the great things they are doing with their jewelry!

Disclaimer: Reecie B. was generous enough to gift me some items from their collection, and I am currently working with them as a brand ambassador. However, all opinions are my own and I would not speak so highly of Reecie B. and its jewelry if I did not genuinely love it.

How-To: Highlight and Contour Like a Model!

Hi lovelies! Today I'm going to be sharing one of my favorite makeup tricks with you guys- highlighting and contouring! What is highlighting and contouring you may ask? It's a technique used by nearly every celebrity, model, and industry professional designed to bring light to certain features on your face while creating a shadow effect on others. Essentially, the goal is to create an illusion with makeup that draws attention to specific areas while diminishing the look of others.

Once you've mastered the basics of highlight and contour, you can make your nose smaller, your cheekbones more defined, your eyes brighter, and so much more. Basically, by the time we're done here you're going to look like you came straight off the runway! So without further adieu, let's get started!

Before you can start to highlight and contour, you'll need the proper makeup to do the job right. To highlight, you'll need a powder, cream, or liquid that is at least one shade lighter than your skin. Keep in mind, it should not be white no matter how fair you are, as that will come off looking too harsh. Contouring will require makeup that is at least one shade darker than your skin tone. I typically use a matte bronzer, as shimmery ones do not create a realistic shadowing on the face. Here are a few recommendations at various price points:

Highlighters:
Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki- $9 (I know it says bronzer, but this baked powder comes out so light and shimmery that it is definitely more of a highlighter!)

Contours:

Once you have the proper makeup, you're ready to start highlighting and contouring! Here's a breakdown of all the areas of the face I like to use this technique on, step-by-step:

For more visual girls out there like me, here is a diagram I created to map out where to apply highlighter (cream), blush (pink), and contour (bronze).

Cheeks:
- Start by applying your favorite blush. Concentrate the majority of the product on the apples of your cheeks, but also work any leftover product back towards your jawline for a more natural effect.
- Apply highlighter right above the apples of your cheeks, following the natural line of your cheekbones.
- Create a more defined, angular look by applying contour color to the hollows of your cheekbones. If you're having trouble finding the hollow line, just suck in like you're making a fish face.

Extra Credit- Pull the contour color you just applied up into the sides of your forehead and down onto your jawline. This will create a "3" looking shape with the contour and works wonders to slim out your entire face.

Nose:
- Apply highlight color down the very center of your nose. The slimmer the line, the more narrow your nose will look.
- Use contour color on each side of the bridge of your nose. I like to start from the tip of my nose and work my way up, as I find that makes it easier to ensure a straight line. If you have a bump in your nose or anything else you'd like to recede, be sure to go right over it with your contour product.
- Blend, blend, blend! I like to blend the contour color down the sides of my nose, just to make sure there are no obvious lines left.

Eyes:
- To look bright and wide awake, apply highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes and right below your brows.

And there you have it! I use this trick all the time, so I'm glad I finally got around to sharing it with you guys! Hope it helped! If you have any questions or highlight and contour tricks of your own you'd like to share, feel free to leave a comment down below!

P.S.- I'd LOVE to see how your highlight and contour looks turn out! Tweet me your pictures here!

The Best Sites to Shop for Chic and Affordable Home Decor!

I have some really exciting news to share with you guys- I'll be getting my first ever apartment this Fall! Words cannot even express how excited I am to finally move out on my own and have my own space! And of course, this new apartment will be the perfect excuse to go on some serious home decor hauls!

As you guys know, it's always my mission to find the best deals out there, and that definitely does not stop when it comes to this stuff! I've been doing a lot of investigating around the internet to find online stores that sell home decor that is both cute and budget-friendly. And let me tell you, it's not as easy as you'd think! I feel like I have a pretty good list for you guys though, I hope it helps anyone else out there who is moving into a new place or just sprucing up wherever they are living now!

I'll be including some images of my favorite pieces available on each site right now as well. Hopefully, this will give you guys a quick peek at the design style and price range of each site listed below. Keep in mind, what's there today may be gone tomorrow so I cannot guarantee the availability or pricing of any items featured in this post.

1. Cotton On
So if you guys saw my post on the best sites to shop for clothes, you probably know how completely obsessed I am with Cotton On. While they are more well-known for their affordable clothes and accessories, Cotton On also has an amazing selection of home and office items. They don't have anything major like bedding or furniture as of now (other than a few throw pillows), but they do have some seriously adorable decorative pieces like the glittery metallic clock and floral mug featured below. Plus, they get major bonus points for their hilarious notebooks and planners. "Shake It Like a Polaroid Picture" notepad anybody?

1. Gold Metallic Glitter Alarm Clock- $20
2. Heart "Cushy" Pillow- $7 (Yep, you read that right!)
3. Antique Brass Magazine Holder- $17
4. Vintage Floral Mug- $10

I know with the name Dormify, anyone over the age of 19 is pretty much automatically ruling out this site. But don't scroll on just yet! This online shop has a great selection of colorful, girly pieces for any age and living situation. I have to admit, I'm slightly obsessed with their #hashtag pillows as well. If it's wrong to use Twitter slang in everyday life, then I don't want to be right.

1. "Good Things Happen Naturally" Wall Print- $30
2. U Love Picture Frame- $15
3. #typical Hashtag Pillow- $37
4. Metal Swing Desk Lamp- $25

3. Joss and Main
When you first visit Joss & Main and see that it's a "members-only" sale site, it can seem kind of intimidating. But they let everyone in right away, all you have to do is make an account which literally took me all of about 30 seconds. And let me tell you, it is definitely worth it! They sell items in limited time "events" that always have a fun theme like "Kitchen Brights" or "Woodwork and Whimsy". Some of the items can be on the more expensive side, but they also have tons of affordable decorative pieces from all different brands.

1. Coastal Prep Anchor Wall Sign- $33
2. Artistic Elements "Rowen" Pillow- $58
3. Warm Spectrum Rainbow Mirror- $60
4. Purple 3-Piece Pan Set- $27

4. PB Teen
If you look in the regular-priced sections of this site, PB Teen pieces can definitely be on the more expensive side. However, the reason I wanted to include them on the list is because they always have some amazing sale and clearance prices going on! And with their absolutely adorable feminine-chic style, it's definitely worth checking back often to see when items you've been coveting go on sale!

1. Pretty Petals Beauty Storage- $45
2. Mix and Match Storage Bins- $15
3. Pom-Pom Bath Mat- $30
4. Rose Pillow Cover- $18

5. Wake Up Frankie
I have to be honest with you guys, I'm kind of torn on this site. They do have some really cute pieces like ruffly pillows and pretty jewelry holders, but some of their stuff is just a little bit cheesy to me. Of course, I have kind of boring taste so don't take my word for it. If you like really bright items and fun patterns galore, Wake Up Frankie is definitely a great shop to check out!

1. Scroll Jewelry Holder- $31
2. Felt Flower Pillow- $28
3. "Lily" Ornate Mirror- $99
4. Peace Candle Tin- $8

And those are all of the home decor sites I am loving right now! If you girlies have any other suggestions to add to this list, feel free to let me know in the comments down below!

My Favorite e.l.f. Products!

I think every girl has that one makeup brand that just has a special place in her heart. And for me, that brand is most definitely e.l.f. Cosmetics! I've been using e.l.f. products for years now and I have just found so many items that I absolutely cannot live without and very few that I haven't liked. The best thing about e.l.f. is that they are so affordable you can really just stock up and experiment with all different products without breaking the bank.

That's why I've decided to put together a list for you guys of all my favorite e.l.f. makeup! Keep in mind, if I include every e.l.f. product I have used and liked on this list, you guys would seriously be here reading for the next year. So I'm going to try and narrow it down to the absolute best of the best! If you want to know my opinion on any products I don't mention in this post, just leave a comment for me down below and I will be sure to let you know what I think!

1. e.l.f. Mineral Concealer-  I use this powder concealer every single morning on blemishes and hyper-pigmentation. It has amazing coverage without looking cake-y and it blends beautifully. Plus, it's part of e.l.f.'s mineral collection which means no preservatives, parabens, or chemical dyes.

2. e.l.f. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen- This little guy is basically my substitute for liquid liner! It goes on with the same liquid consistency that is perfect for a winged eye, but it has the precision and control of a pencil liner. I've heard a lot of complaints that this eyeliner doesn't last all day, but I've never had an issue as long as I use an eyelid primer.

3. e.l.f. Studio Brushes- Literally every single makeup brush I own comes from the e.l.f. Studio brush line! The brushes are super soft and high quality, and I've had no issues with shedding like I have with more expensive brands in the past.

4. e.l.f. Translucent Matifying Powder- This powder is one of my all-time favorites for setting liquid makeup and keeping my skin matte all day long. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I love this powder so much I like to keep one in my room and then another in my purse for blotting throughout the day.

5. e.l.f. Eyelid Primer- I've actually found that this $1 primer works a lot better than most of the high-end eyelid primers I have tried! Not only does it keep my eye makeup in place all day long, but the skin-toned color of this primer is perfect for creating a neutral base so that you end up getting the true color of whatever products you're using.

6. e.l.f. Luscious Liquid Lipstick- So this item actually reminds me a lot more of a lip gloss than a lipstick.  It definitely has the more sheer, shiny consistency of a gloss but without any of the stickiness! You definitely don't get a lot of product in the little tube, but for the price it's pretty affordable to just stock up.

7. e.l.f. Studio Blush- These blushes are seriously just the best thing ever! I have pretty much every color that e.l.f. makes, and I have found that nearly every single one of them is a dupe for a high-end blush. However, the only downside I've found is that the powder used for these blushes is really loose and can get pretty messy. So just be careful around your clothes or anything else you don't want getting a natural glow!

8. e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow- The quality of these mineral shadows is just so amazing for the price. They have great pigmentation and come in a range of absolutely beautiful colors. As you guys know, I'm all about the neutral colors for my eyes so I have this product in nearly every neutral color they offer and I use all of them on a regular basis.

9. e.l.f. Studio 144-Piece Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette- So continuing with the neutral eyeshadow theme, I feel like this palette was literally just made for me because it has every color I could ever want and none of the bright colors I would never use. The color selection is so huge it can be a little overwhelming, but I've gotten used to it! It's great knowing that whatever color I need, I can find it in this palette.

10. e.l.f. Mineral Booster- Last but certainly not least, this mineral booster is basically designed to give the skin a flawless, "airbrushed" finish. I've found that it really does wonders to reduce the look of pores and any other imperfections which is why I love to use it for events where I know I'll be photographed.

And those are all of my absolute favorite e.l.f. products! I hope you girlies found this post useful and got some ideas for new products to buy either in-store or on e.l.f.'s website. Like I mentioned before, if there are any other items you're curious about and I haven't mentioned, chances are I've probably tried it! So feel free to ask any questions or share your experience with e.l.f. makeup in the comments!

The Liebster Award!

So a few days ago I was nominated for the Liebster Award by the wonderful Emily at My Favorite Day, thanks girl! I think this is such an amazing idea and a great way to really bring the blogging community together and introduce you guys to new blogs! Whoever started this tag, go you!

Anyways, let's go ahead and begin!

The Rules!

1. Each blogger should answer the questions the tagger has set for you.
2. Choose 11 new bloggers to pass the award on to and link them in your post.
3. Create 11 new questions for the chosen bloggers.
4. Go back to their page and tell them about the award.
5. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.
6. No tag-backs!

11 Random Facts About Me

- I've been a vegetarian since I was 11.
- I'm obsessed with pugs, and I am determined to get one some day. Such smooshy little faces!
- In the 6th grade I went through a phase where I would only wear pink.
- I google absolutely anything that pops into my head.
- I'd love to travel the world, but so far the only other country I've been to is Canada.
- I am the most bland eater ever. Anything really spicy, sweet, sour, or salty grosses me out.
- I didn't get my drivers license until I was 19.
- A few years ago I tried to dye my hair blonde myself and it turned a lovely shade of orange.
- I could eat mac & cheese for every meal the rest of my life and be perfectly content.
- I am the most uncoordinated person ever. I could seriously trip on an ant.
- I'm an only child, but I've always wanted a brother or sister.

Questions For Me

1. If you had to choose ONE would it be: mascara, foundation, OR lippies?
Oh my gosh, don't make me choose! I guess I would have to go with foundation, because it really evens out my skin and hides all my imperfections.

2. Choose a Hemsworth: Chris or Liam?
Hmmm, I'm not really into either but I guess I'd have to say Liam. I'm just not a fan of long hair or super muscular guys.

3. What is your favorite movie?
I have quite a few, but if I had to choose one I'd probably go with Inception. I love movies that really mess with your mind and make you think, and Inception just does that like no other.

4. What is your favorite mascara?
Either Maybelline Great Lash or Clinique High Impact. I like that they both do a great job of lengthening my lashes without making them clumpy or wet.

5. You over-slept. You have 15 minutes to get out the door. Explain everything you would make SURE to get finished before leaving.
Well, besides all the basics like brushing my teeth and showering, I would probably just throw on some mascara, BB cream, and lip balm.

6. What is your go-to body lotion?
Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath & Body Works!

7. What beauty product is your biggest vice?
Probably eyeshadow palettes, I have a massive collection of them already and I'm always on the lookout for new ones that have a good selection of colors.

8. Do you have any odd or unconventional items in your beauty routine?
When I have really major bags under my eyes I freeze a metal spoon and then hold it on them. I swear by it!

9. Who is your most watched/favorite YouTuber?
Definitely Missglamorazzi! Ingrid is actually the one who really got me passionate about makeup, she just makes everything sound so amazing and she is a total ray of sunshine!

10. What are your can't-live-without beauty products? Limit: 3

11. You have unlimited funds, but can only buy 1 thing. What would you purchase?
So I know this is completely not beauty related or glamorous at all, but I would probably buy a (really massive) house. Gotta be practical sometimes!

Questions for My Nominees:

1. What celebrity is your biggest beauty or style inspiration?
2. What feature on your face do you like to play up the most when doing your makeup? (Ex: Lips, cheeks, eyes, etc.)
3. How long does it typically take you to get ready in the morning?
4. What inspired you to start blogging?
5. What is your favorite store to shop for clothes?
6. At what age did you start wearing makeup? What was the first product you used?
7. What is your favorite underdog beauty product? (Something you love but not many other people seem to know about.)
8. If you could have any job in the world, what would you do?
9. What is your signature scent? (Favorite perfume or body spray)
10. What is one beauty thing you suck at?
11. What are your favorite TV shows?

My Favorite Things ♥ April 2013

Happy May 1st! I am so excited that the weather is finally starting to warm up around me! Summer is almost here, I can feel it! And of course, with the passing of another month I have a whole bunch of products that I've been loving, and I want to share them with you guys! I have quite a few beauty products I've been wearing pretty much nonstop, and as usual a few other random obsessions thrown in. So let's go ahead and jump into everything!

Beauty:

Pure Ice Nail Polish in Twinkle- I've been wearing this nail polish pretty much the entire month of April! It doesn't translate quite as well on camera, but the color is an absolutely gorgeous coral with tiny gold flecks that create an iridescent shimmer. Not only is the color amazing, but it has really great staying power as well. I got through just over a week wearing it with zero chips, which is basically a personal best for me. Oh, and did I mention you can find it for about $2 at Walmart?  For some reason they don't sell the Pure Ice line of polish online, so you guys should definitely just head over to your local Walmart and scoop one (or ten!) up.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal Eyeshadow in Barely Branded and Inked in Pink- I have been completely obsessed with Color Tattoos since the second they came out. The consistency is just so creamy and smooth, and the color seriously lasts all day long. For some reason, up until a few weeks ago I was never able to track down the metal collection of Color Tattoos at any stores around me. So when I noticed them while I was browsing the beauty section at Walmart, it basically made my life day.

LiSi Cream Color Lipstick in Spring Break- So I actually first showed you guys this lipstick a few weeks ago in my Spring Shopping Haul. And since then, it has become one of my all-time favorites! The consistency is just super creamy and the color is really build-able so you can take your look from semi-sheer during the daytime to bright at night. LiSi reminds me a lot of MAC in terms of minimalist chic packaging as well as quality. Their lipstick can seriously hold it's own next to MAC for a fraction of the cost!

Too Faced Natural Face Palette- I basically just got this palette on a whim when I saw it on sale at Ulta, and I am so glad I did! The powder blush included in the palette is an absolutely gorgeous shade of peachy pink that gives a gorgeous natural-looking flush. I really love the bronzing veil as well, it's a light bronze that gives my fair skin just a hint of color. Also, the brightener works great for applying over dark circles and on the inner corners of the eye to get a wide-awake, glow-y effect. The luminizer works wonderfully for highlighting as well!

I'm not crazy about the creme blush and concealer so far. It might just be because of my oily skin, but the creme blush just has no staying power whatsoever for me. It's a really beautiful color and I feel like it would look great on someone who's skin isn't an oil slick, but it just doesn't work for me. Same with the concealer, there is just not enough coverage for my liking and the shade is slightly too dark for me anyway. I definitely think this palette is worth it just because I got a really good deal on it and I love the majority of the items it comes with, however the regular price is pretty darn high! I would recommend waiting for a sale, or  at least going over to your local Ulta or Sephora and testing out the products before you make the investment.

Fashion:

BaubleBar Noir Pop Bracelets- So I've been seeing these bracelets absolutely everywhere the past few months, but I kept putting off buying one because I just have so many bracelets and I've been trying to cut down a little. However, about a month ago I finally caved and I am so glad that I did! They are just so versatile. I've worn them with everything from jeans and a tee at school to a dressy black blazer and they just compliment any outfit. Plus, I love that the sizing is adjustable! It makes me feel much better about buying them for myself or as a gift and knowing that whatever the wrist size, the bracelet will fit.

P.S.- Be sure to browse BaubleBar's website, they have tons more cute bracelets in similar styles!

Forever 21 Bow Back Pullover in Salmon- Okay, words cannot even express how completely obsessed I am with this top! When I first saw it on the rack, it just looked like your typical pink pullover so I wasn't very impressed. But from the second I pulled it out and saw the bows on the back, I was absolutely sold! It also doesn't hurt that it's super comfy, like on the level of my favorite lazy day hoodie. So needless to say, I've gotten a lot of use out of it this month!

Food:

Pirate's Booty- As I kid, I used to bring this in my little lunch bag almost every single day. And somehow over the years I completely forgot about it's cheesy, crunchy goodness! Thankfully, I happened to stumble on it while I was grocery shopping a few weeks ago and oh boy, it is definitely as good as I remember! What I love about Pirate's Booty as well is that it's all-natural, so there aren't any of those freaky unpronounceable ingredients and radioactive looking orange dyes you find on traditional puffed corn cheesy snacks. Seriously, go buy some!

Blogger:

Bows and Beauty- Lizzy, the blogger behind Bows and Beauty, is actually a real life friend of mine and an amazing writer! She just got started about a week ago so she doesn't have a whole lot up yet, but what she does have is hilarious, informative, and makes me want to go out and buy whatever product she's talking about! So go check out Bows and Beauty and say hi!

That's it for my favorite things this month! Have any products or other randomness you've been loving this month? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below!
